Blends unsuited to ebru quality, such as horse mane or ox tail, are not used; only 100% horse-tail hair is preferred, because the balance of flexibility and stiffness in tail hair is ideal for distributing paint evenly on the water surface. While the lightness of beech wood balances the brush, each brush wound one by one by hand and is offered for sale after testing.
